| OK - I am sharing this: IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW <a href=http://www.sendspace.com/file/z1biuu">The Langley School Music Project - Innocence & Despair</a> The Langley Schools Music Project is a 60-voice chorus of rural school children from western Canada, untrained but captivated by melodic magic, singing tunes by the Beach Boys, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, The Bay City Rollers, and others. The students accompany themselves with the shimmering gamelan chimes of Orff percussion, and elemental rock trimmings arranged by their itinerant music teacher, Hans.Fenger. These 1976-77 recordings, captured on a 2-track tape deck in a school gymnasium, weren't staged to achieve money or fame, to sell albums or land a record contract. These kids played music because they loved it. Innocent, flawed and bittersweet, guided by Fenger's unsuspecting genius, these recordings deserve to be heard and preserved. They brim with charm and youthful élan, sparked by flashes of lo-fi Spectorian majesty and Pet Sounds subtlety. Call it folk art, outsider, or campfire rock -- the labels don't matter. These are gorgeous, heavenly artifacts. Period. These recordings were originally contained on two 12" LPs, pressed exclusively for the students, their classmates, teachers, and parents. They were never intended for exposure outside the provincial Langley region. But after they came to the attention of Irwin Chusid, the Songs in the Key of Z author and record producer vowed to make these recordings commercially available. He forged a licensing/trustee agreement with the Langley School administrators, and with the blessings of Hans Fenger and several former student soloists who were located, these priceless recordings have now been introduced to the rest of the planet. This is my "i need something to cheer me up instantly" album. |

steingarten IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW With his 2003 self-titled Pole album, Stefan Betke abandoned the minimalist glitch-dub of his previous three albums (and numerous singles and EPs) and embraced full-on overt beat construction, even going so far as to incorporate an MC/vocalist on some tracks in the form of positive rapper Fat Jon, at the risk of alienating his existing avant-inclined audience. Well, he's backed off a bit on Steingarten, at least enough to allow the accessibility of that work to inform his meticulous yet subverted groove, although he's at least back to pure instrumentals that retain that gritty Pole texture that we all know and love. Where in the past a simple snap, crackle & pop in their infinite variations, were enough to flesh out a Pole track, he has tipped his hand to show he has the ability and even the tendency to go aboveground with sample- and sequencer-based electronica. All but gone is his beloved proprietary Waldorf 4-Pole Filter, which supposedly has been the basis of all his arrangements (as legend would have it, the device was all the more distinctive after being dropped down a flight of stairs, or some such scenario) and Steingarten has him fleshing out his sound with additional equipment (unless perhaps he found some new switches and twists on the old device), much to the chagrin, possibly, of his purist old-school fans and much to the potential of mass appeal. Which is not at all a bad thing; Betke manages here to evoke his more traditional-minded contemporaries such as Luke Vibert and Mike Paradinas in an obvious display of playfulness and accessibility, and it works on every level. Yes, the established Pole sound is still here, but it is now so aboveground, warm, friendly, and dare it be said, danceable, that one wonders whether Betke has been hiding it all these years. Although those micro-dub workouts of the past were pure genius, is it possible he's found the absolute here, the perfect way of getting those subliminalist sounds in his head across to a mainstream audience? Only time will tell. |

chalk IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW Maybe it’s because she’s returned to Dorset, England but White Chalk is Harvey’s most significant turn since…oh, about 1993, when she was casting fire and brimstone in the post-Beefheart blues of Rid of Me. Notably, she’s significantly pared back her instrumental palette, trading guitar for piano and allowing her lesser facility with the latter instrument to guide her hands into composing some of her most simply affecting songs. Swathing the melodies with a gauzy haze of reverb, “When Under Ether” and “Grow Grow Grow” come closer to the medieval marshlands of Nico’s Desertshore than anything in Harvey’s corpus of work to date; “White Chalk” itself broadcasts from under an eiderdown, Jim White’s marching-band-on-downers drums framing the song’s elemental reminisce perfectly. By keeping the pace and emotional tenor of the album in check, Harvey has resisted her more prolix urges, resulting in a suite of songs – and this collection deserve suite status more than any other, due to their internal consistency and shared conviction – more powerful for their restraint. Depending on how much faith you place in her artistry, this new turn from Polly could appear as another canny shape shift, a leap into left field pre-planned to keep people talking. |

| Cecil Taylor - Nefertiti, the
Beautiful One Has Come IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW from allmusic: This double-LP is the only recording that exists of Cecil Taylor and his group (other than two songs on the bootleg Ingo label) during 1962-1965. Taylor's then-new altoist Jimmy Lyons (who occasionally hints at Charlie Parker) and the first truly "free" drummer Sunny Murray join the avant-garde pianist in some stunning trio performances recorded live at the Cafe Montmartre in Copenhagen. With the exception of an interesting version of "What's New" (which finds Lyons showing off his roots), the music is comprised entirely of Taylor originals and is atonal and full of power. |

VIEW El Topo OST El Topo (The Mole) is a 1970 Mexican allegorical, cult western movie and underground film, directed by and starring Alejandro Jodorowsky. Characterized by its bizarre characters and occurrences, use of maimed and dwarf performers, and heavy doses of Christian symbolism and Eastern philosophy, the film is about the eponymous character - a violent, black-clad gunfighter - and his quest for enlightenment. For many years the film could only be seen at midnight screenings, in arthouses and via video bootlegs until its official DVD release by Anchor Bay on May 1st, 2007 I think there are multiple influences in El Topo – I have them all: the influence of all the books I’ve read and all the films I’ve seen, of all the winds that have blown against my skin, of all the stars that have exploded during my lifetime, of each manifestation of the now manifested, of each flea that’s shit on me. Especially a flea I met in 1955. It shit on me in such an incredible way, that it changed my life. I’m sure that flea’s in my film -Alexandro Jodorowsky |

| islaja - ulual YYY
IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW Islaja’s third album Ulual YYY fades out on a note of rustic lyricism, with field recordings of twittering insects and honking geese overtaking an unraveling braid of keyboard melodies. But most of the music that precedes it is more redolent of hours spent hunkered over the tape machine or sunk in deep introspection than of a walk in some dark Karelian wood. Singer and multi-instrumentalist Merja Kokkonen crafted the record alone, save for some sax and bass assistance from Jukka Rãisãnen and drums on one track by Arvi Lind, and it definitely feels like a one-woman affair. The music is often static and layered, its progress somewhat halting in contrast to the fluid churn that she and Rãisãnen brought when they toured the US in 2005. Which isn’t to suggest that there’s no melody, because Kokkonen has penned some strong ones, and she sings them quite powerfully. Her voice, which is direct and full of emotion that communicates ache and exhilaration across the language divide (all the singing is in Finnish), is really her strongest instrument. She has a rare instinct for the telling detail, dropping a note down when you might expect her to ascend a scale, overdubbing her voice into slightly off-pitch unisons instead of close harmonies, or whispering through a walky-talky mic to make distortion coat her words like dust on a rarely touched bookshelf. There’s something bird-like in the motion of her voice, the way it floats above and then retreats from the clatter of chimes over wheezing accordion and accelerating handclaps on “Muukalais-silmã,” or swoops through the yawning expanses between the deliberate electric bass, rasping violin, and eerie whistling on “Psãtyneet Planeetat.” In the sounds Kokkonen selects, and in the sense that even when she’s working at her home studio late into the night there’s a window open to an outdoors devoid of humanity, “Ulual YYY” reminds me of Alastair Galbraith’s splendid 90s recordings. Here’s hoping they get a chance to collaborate. |

| Earth - Extra-Capsular
Extraction</b> IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW Whilst "Earth 2" is considered Earth's greatest hour, on this debut, we see the beginnings of a band destined to become infamous for many reasons, most not related to music! Whilst on later releases Earth became known for its drum-less, vocal-less, droning style of riff-doom, on this release, whilst still droning away, they sound more like a "band" as we know it. There are drums and some vocals, albeit merely serving as a backdrop to the ever droning guitar and bass (bass and percussion on this album is handled by Joe Preston, later of Melvins, and his solo project Thrones). 'Extra-Capsular Extraction' has been described as "avant-garde grunge", and indeed the song structures and guitar sound, do take much from this Seattle based musical style. But Earth are truly a doom band. The oppressive and repetitive nature of the three tracks make you think of the world at its end, the inevitability of doom itself. But the songs are so long, the drone so pervading, that you feel as if that doom will never arrive. Imagine early Black Sabbath without Ozzy, played at 1/10th the speed, with a dash of Nirvana's "Bleach" album (also slowed way down) and you will be close to the 'Extra-Capsular Extraction' sound. This album was long considered a holy grail amongst doomsters and grunge lovers alike, as it was deleted in the mid 1990's. Now, thanks to Sub Pop, it has been re-released, and is available for ears the world over. Now there is no excuse not to add this seminal doom release to your collection. room - two hunters IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW For music to evolve, it does not necessarily have to expand in reach for something new and unknown, or to incorporate alien sounds. Sometimes genre introspection, an eye to tradition and genuine love and appreciation of the art itself is enough to bring outstanding results. _Two Hunters_ is the eagerly awaited sophomore album by American trio Wolves in the Throne Room, after the very well received _Diadem of 12 Stars_, and it succeeds in not only being an outstanding album, but also an effort that builds bridges between old and new, past and future. Though the album stands with its two feet firm in the traditional black metal aesthetics, it clearly emanates much more complex aural and ethical idea(l)s. Dedicated to nature, indeed one might say -born- by its creators' love and connection to nature, the concept goes beyond the mere folkloric influences to a more raw spiritual understanding and appreciation of what surrounds us. The ascetic life of the band members translates to the music with a disarming honesty. Genre influences can be distinguished in all four songs. The subtle atmosphere of _HEart of the Ages_ era nod to In the Woods... in the opening "Dia Artio". Ulver's _Bergtatt_ and Sun of the Sleepless' _Poems to the Wretches' Hearts_ grimness and blast beats in "Vastness and Sorrow". Even the very recent Moonsorrow album _V: Hävitetty_'s organic instrumentation in the eighteen minute epic "I Will Lay Down My Bones Among the Rocks and Roots". Not afraid of experimentation, the band sprinkle their album with extra touches. Avant-garde female vocalist Jessica Kinney contributes passages in two of the songs; the recording is organic, almost analogue sounding; acoustic and semi-acoustic passages are intertwined throughout; background keyboards that are haunting and atmospheric; and blast beats to die for. Guitars ebb and flow, sometimes creating such well structured nuances that one can only marvel at the result (the fretwork at the beginning of the last song comes to mind). And the hellish shrieking vocals are a constant reminder that despite the evolution, this is still fundamentally black metal. At forty six minutes, _Two Hunters_ leaves the listener exhilarated and at the same time gagging for more. An intense and even thought provoking release, which is unlike most black metal albums of late. A mesmerising, touching, violent and ultimately fulfilling experience. |

| brokenfuses - 1/7/08, 11:06 am |
| Sharebee is a site that doesn't actually host the files. It gives you four options of what site you want to download from. Zdnet, Megaupload, Rapidshare, etc. |

Lightning flashes in the sky; a lab-coated assistant cowers, terrified, in the corner. The monster stumbles to his feet, groans and bellows for a while, smashes a few test tubes and beakers, and then lurches toward the nearest recording studio to make a really cool-sounding album of experimental soundscapes, moans, whispers, and creaks. Extended Organ is Paul McCarthy, Fredrik Nilsen, Joe Potts, and Tom Recchion, so you know it's gotta be good. You'll be the coolest on your block when you play this at your Halloween party... |

| AUTECHRE - TRI
REPETAE++ IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW <i>Starting with the snarling, slow machine-funk of "Dael," Tri Repetae fully confirms Autechre's evolution into electronic noise kings. If not as immediately experimental as the fractured work by the likes of Merzbow, Tri Repetae expertly harnesses the need for a beat to perfectly balance out the resolutely fierce, crunching samples and busy arrangements, turning from being inspired by Aphex Twin to being equally inspiring in itself. "Rotar" does a particularly fine job on this front, with high-pitched sounds against low, distorted bass blasts -- and this only forms part of the percussion arrangement. The basic combination of soft melody and harsh beats are here as well, coming fully to the fore and resulting in such fine songs as the synth-string/organ wheeze laden "Leterel" and the quirky, sweet "Gnit." Nearly every track has a particular edge or element to it, making it eminently listenable and distinct. "Stud," for all of its macho connotations, actually takes a gentler path than most of the album's tunes, with a flowing synth wash at the center of a stripped-down but sharp digital-drum punch; by the end of the song, the synth loops float freely in an uneasy, ambient wave. With the drowsy pulse of "Overand" and the echoing beats of "Radio" (perhaps not so ironically, the most straightforward of the album's songs) to close things out, Tri Repetae stands as a varied, accomplished album, clear evidence of Autechre's unique genius around sound. American releases included a bonus disc compiling the Anvil Vapre and Garbage EPs. (from allmusic) |

| new earf Earth - The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull "Earth's Hex album, despite transgressing doom genre boundaries, turned out to be something of a touchstone for many artists in the field; its American gothic landscapes were quickly swallowed up as a new fixture in the death ambient vocabulary, and countless records seem to have been made since that have tapped into its stately Western gloom. The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull is a natural progression from Hex, taking the same template of slow, simplistic progressions and low-end riffing whilst adding liberal smatterings of keyboard instrumentation - hardly the sort of thing you'd expect from Dylan Carson and co. Some of this material is actually rather... pretty. 'Hung On The Moon' is augmented by Steve Moore's Hammond textures and jazzy piano, transforming the repetitive doom structure into a far more interesting, matured sound, loaded with a harmonic ambiguity. Another key additional musician is Bill Frisell, who clearly spent some time looking for his distortion pedal for his stint on this album. In amongst the riff-mongering belligerence guitar passages break loose to open up the narratives. 'Engine Of Ruin' is a particularly fine example of this trend, with an end passage decked out with arcs of vibrant string bends and expressive, melodic phrasing. A considerable evolutionary shift for the band, this album sounds like the work of a very different group from the more ominous, monochromatic work of their droning past." (link) |

| I've been searching for this soundtrack/score for the longest time and I cannot find it anywhere.
Not any local record stores, Newbs, and seemingly not online anywhere: IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW The Hired Hand (Peter Fonda's directorial debut from 1971) is a beautiful film -- a sparse and simple story -- the ideal western. You will notice the soundtrack. The music by Bruce Langhorne is just as simple and sparsely beautiful as the film itself. If I hear it right, all he does is arpeggiate a few chords on guitars and banjos, more like a sound texture than composition. But if you've ever heard a poet read his words with a musician playing behind him, and the richness and additional dimension that the music provides the experience, you will have an idea of what Langhorne's music does for this film. The best bit by a country mile... an unbearably lovely needlepoint of ever-so-gently pyschedelicised instrumental Americana. Four stars --Danny Eccleston. Mojo Magazine. 2004 If anyone has this, I would love it if you put it up and on here. Also, I plan to YSI some 60's/70's pop and rock stuff if anyone would feel an interest (ex: Moby Grape, Pentagram, The Electric Prunes, Fairport Convention..etc.) Thanks! |
