What is your favorite episode?

mine is "home," it still disturbs me
JohnaldMorman - 03/22/07 - 8:39 pm (71.243.192.147)
i always liked when they did experimental episodes. the black-and-white one, the funny one with luke wilson involving vampires, the one done in one-shot, etc.

nattynat - 03/22/07 - 8:45 pm (71.135.76.92)
the one where cockroaches attack people in packs. Mulder and Scully discover that some of them are mechanical. Totallllly awesome. Also, amazingly, the X-Files movie was pretty tight! I effffing still love this show. I watched the roach episode a few months ago and it still gave me nightmares
mike - 03/22/07 - 8:45 pm (66.30.169.43)
That is probably my second favorite episode. Jack Black is awesome in that.
cheryl - 03/22/07 - 8:45 pm (71.232.100.148)
NOT any of the episodes with doggett and reyes
cheryl - 03/22/07 - 8:46 pm (71.232.100.148)
any time the lone gunmen are on. they're kind of awesome.
cheryl - 03/22/07 - 8:50 pm (71.232.100.148)
apparently the xfiles is on tnt in 10 minutes. good night to make this thread!
brennz - 03/22/07 - 8:53 pm (71.192.78.247)
anything where the plot involves scully having skepticisms and mulder running off to find out what happened to his sister... the way that story line developed was really amazing and sprawled all over the place!
Adley - 03/22/07 - 8:54 pm (69.37.245.181)
whoa mike...you're on a roll with the nerd threads.
asemisldkfj - 03/22/07 - 8:58 pm (66.92.79.45)
I have a few. I'll post them later.

JOSE CHUNG'S FROM OUTER SPACE IS ON AT 2
StudioShibli - 03/22/07 - 10:33 pm (71.233.248.238)
I loved this show SO much growing up. I've not watched it in years now.
asemisldkfj - 03/22/07 - 10:36 pm (66.92.79.45)
favorite funny episodes: clyde bruckman's final repose, jose chung's "from outer space", and bad blood.

favorite beginning motw episodes: the jersey devil, born again, and the host.

favorite season ending/beginning combo: anasazi and the blessing way.

awesome sidestory kind of mythology episode: musings of a cigarette smoking man.

a couple of awesome, light-hearted, motw episodes: the unnatural (this episode MIGHT be my favorite. the scully/mulder relationship in this episode rules (mulder teaching scully to hit a baseball at the end!) and it's funny and it's interesting and I just love it) and how the ghosts stole xmas.

I just picked this one because I remember scully looking especially hot in it: agua mala.

I don't care what anyone else says, I liked the x-cops episode.

these are two good reyes/dogget episodes (yes, they exist): 4-d and audrey pauley.

and to finish, three episodes that are filmed and acted amazingly: triangle, all things, and improbable.

wow, that was a lot.
asemisldkfj - 03/22/07 - 10:42 pm (66.92.79.45)
okay someone please talk to me about this now haha
retep - 03/22/07 - 10:48 pm (70.19.169.116)
I totally agree that out of the light-hearted, "experimental" ones The Unnatural is the best.

I know I won't be able to think of my favorite one off the top of my head, but one of my favs is the southern man who starts killing a doctors family as revenge for supposibly kiling his daughter.
asemisldkfj - 03/22/07 - 10:50 pm (66.92.79.45)
I'd like to add one to my list

favorite music (medicore to good episode): the goldberg variation. the one with that dude who's really lucky and he gets tossed off a building and lives. the music at the beginning is awesome.
retep - 03/22/07 - 10:54 pm (70.19.169.116)
ha, that's so true! That one really was incredible.
asemisldkfj - 03/22/07 - 11:17 pm (66.92.79.45)
I just realized that the josh exley (baseball player) in the unnatural is modeled after josh gibson, whom I just read about in a book called 'catching dreams' by frazier robinson, who played with gibson. sweet.
asemisldkfj - 03/22/07 - 11:32 pm (66.92.79.45)
actually they never did play on the same team, my bad. but they were both catchers and robinson mentions him a lot in his book.
neopolitan - 03/23/07 - 5:15 am (38.115.17.71)
yeah, home is definently the answer. but i like that zany one where everyone gets hypnotized by the gov so that they believe silly ufo stories and descredit reputable eyewitness accounts of ufos. its the one with alex trebek.
mike - 03/23/07 - 2:53 pm (66.30.169.43)
i need to do some research on asemi's pics and refresh my memory and respond adequately, another successful nerd thread.
cheryl - 03/23/07 - 4:34 pm (71.232.100.148)
i thought of another episode that i love. (or is it two? was this a double episode?)
the one where mulder switches bodies with michael mckean
asemisldkfj - 03/23/07 - 6:33 pm (66.92.79.45)
two episodes

pick it up, mike

good episode(s).

I'm adding, the one where Mulder keeps living the day over and over groundhog day style, inwhich he is trying to stop the man from robbing/blowing up a bank.
asemisldkfj - 03/23/07 - 6:36 pm (66.92.79.45)
yeah, that's a good one too. not a fav, but a good one.

I just started the second season. In the first season, I really liked "The Erlenmeyer Flask" (and did anyone notice Mulder's ridiculous buldge in "Duane Berry" when he gets out of the pool?). I also like the ones with The Lone Gunmen
gaptooth - 04/23/07 - 9:37 am (66.31.202.217)
Dude, I just watched season 3 in it's entirety last week. How many different Vandals t-shirts can a dude wear!?
cutandpaste - 05/12/07 - 4:33 pm (66.92.79.45)
top again.

I'm in the middle of season 3. I just watched "Syzygy" the one with the two teenage girls (one is the sister from That 70's Show) who murder people and when Scully gets all sassy and snaps at Mulder. It was great.

I also agree with Brian and really liked the end of season 2 "Anazasi" into season 3 "The Blessing Way."

I don't care what anyone else says, I liked the x-cops episode.

that one is great

i can't believe no one has said "pusher" or "kitsunegari"

also "theef"
Ian - 06/06/07 - 6:26 pm (199.94.69.48)
syzygy is really eh in my opinion

DPO i was i fan of a good deal.

I always loved the cheesy ones that were fun like umm crap what was it called... the one with the baseball player being an alien. It had some clever name.

OH that episode with the three brothers who kept their mom under the floor boards and made the sex with her was an amazing one too.

I am not really savy with the names of them.
Ian - 06/06/07 - 6:52 pm (199.94.69.48)

i haven't seen this episode in a few years and it still gives me nightmares. i think it's the scariest x files episode.

i love the one with the haunted house, it's a goofy one, but that's why i love it. i think ernest borgnine is in it. the old couple are ghosts and they are messing around with mulder and scully.
asemisldkfj - 06/06/07 - 7:45 pm (66.92.79.45)
baseball one is 'the unnatural' and haunted house one is 'how the ghosts stole xmas'

Jose Chung's from outerspace is the worst one ever!

Musings of a Cigarette smoking man made me HOLY SHIT when he fucking shot JFK! And in the end, when he's like "But not today..not today."
asemisldkfj - 06/06/07 - 8:05 pm (66.92.79.45)
dude you're insane
xWillx - 06/06/07 - 8:08 pm (207.180.176.219)
MY girlfriend and I watched Jose Chung's from Outerspace and we got so bummed. Like, it was so bad we both got this weird feeling that we were having a dream or something. NO JOKE!

I just finished season 5 so next is the movie!

some episodes i especially liked from the last few seasons were:
D.P.O. - Like everyone has said, really good.
War of the Coprophages - The one with the cockroaches. The scene in the grocery store with the chocolate candy is so clever.
Small Potatoes - When the father of babies born with tails turns himself into Mulder and goes back to the FBI and tries to seduce Scully, which was very clever and funny.
Unusual Suspects - Flashback to how the Lone Gunmen met and started work with Mulder. The Lone Gunmen rule.
Christmas Carol and Emily - The ones where Scully finds out she has a daughter and then the daughter dies. So sad.

And LOTS of others. All the mythology ones and the whole story of Scully's cancer is really good (and the foreshadowing when the man who eats tumors tries to attack her).

So good!

And from the "Stupid Things I Did Today" thread:

georgia - 06/10/07 - 7:27 pm (76.24.1.116)
i will make my list when i'm done with my summer/fall '07 project, watching the entire series over from the beginning.

i just finished season one. so far, i've seen the first appearance of skinner, and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of alex krycek AND donnie pfester (the necrophiliac).

also, i forgot how much i love mulder's snappy/corny lines, and the episodes 'roland' and 'genderbender.' oh, and TOOMS is friggin scary.
cutandpaste - 06/10/07 - 7:34 pm (66.92.79.45)
I agree that Genderbender was good, especially because Mulder refers to sex as "do the wild thing"
cutandpaste - 08/06/07 - 1:48 pm (207.172.78.35)
UPDATE!

After four months of watching every episode in order, I'm finally at the last season.
Here's the episodes that I especially liked since my last update (sort of spoiler alert?):

Triangle: Mulder goes back in time to a WWII era cruise ship. Cigarette Smoking Man and Jeffery Spender and Nazis and Scully is a passenger. Very clever and well done.
Dreamland 1 and 2: Mulder switches bodies with an Area 51 Man in Black. Watching Mulder confuse Man In Black's wife and the Man in Black trying to seduce Scully is hilarious.
Arcadia: Mulder and Scully go undercover as a married couple in a planned community. The plot with the monster isn't anything special, but I think the interactions between Mulder and Scully in this episode might be my favorite.
Biogenisis and The Sixth Extinction: A spacecraft with writing on it is discovered in Africa, Scully tried to decode it and it makes Mulder sick. Great Mythology episode, I like the plot of an alien spacecraft with everything about Earth written on it.
Badlaa: This episode wasn't especially good, but I have to give them credit for the weirdness of the plot. A legless man wheels himself around on a squeaky cart, then climbs up people's butts to control their actions and kills them when he crawls back out.
This Is Not Happening and DeadAlive: Just great Mythology episodes.

spoiler alert:
Closure: I was dissapointed with how they explained Mulders sisters dissapearance. I thought I could have been done with more actual explination (not just "she's in a better place") and in a more interesting way, connected to the conspiracy with less new-agey stuff. It felt like a cop-out to me.
Per Manum: I thought I wasn't going to be into the plot twist of Scully's pregnancy and it would suddenly become all about her baby, but I thought they did a good job with it and ended up really invested in it. I especially liked the episodes dealing with alien fertilization.

It's just all really good!

Next is Season 9 and once I'm done I don't know what I'm going to do with my time.

the one where cockroaches attack people in packs. Mulder and Scully discover that some of them are mechanical. Totallllly awesome.

this episode has amazing mulder/scully sexual tension!

I really like the episode with the teenage girls who are killing off the basketball team. HATE HIM. WOULDN'T WANNA DATE HIM.

triangle, dreamland and arcadia are fukken classic
asemisldkfj - 08/06/07 - 9:42 pm (66.92.79.45)
triangle is so good it blows my mind

so is the unnatural

can't take it
asemisldkfj - 08/06/07 - 9:43 pm (66.92.79.45)
I think I'm gonna watch the unnatural right now.
asemisldkfj - 08/07/07 - 12:05 am (66.92.79.45)
I involuntarily smiled when Scully said, "Shut up, Mulder. I'm playing baseball."
mR. id - 08/07/07 - 12:08 am (68.163.143.88)
I like the lightning one with Giovanni Ribisi.
nattynat - 08/07/07 - 2:16 am (76.205.25.123)
YEAH Mr. Id, I just saw that one the other day. TIGHT!

UN: cutandpaste I don't know if I've even seen season 9 but don't they just get extremely crappy and they have this other pair of really shitty agents that star in it too?
mike - 08/07/07 - 6:41 am (24.193.45.120)
personal xfiles update...

my sister gave me seasons 1,2,&3 on DVD and me and my wife are making our way through them. We are almost done with season 1. Its awesome to be watching these in sequence again.
nathanc - 08/07/07 - 6:47 am (24.147.131.62)
the episode that really made me feel fucked up was the one where the older woman is reliving her abduction experience/living vicariously through the current victim. that episode was beyond intense.
cutandpaste - 08/07/07 - 8:20 am (72.248.137.66)
In season 8 and 9, Agents Dogget/Reyes are the main focus (Mulder is in hiding and Scully does less atual investigating), they're definitely not as good as the other episodes and it sucks having Mulder not actually there, but I don't think they're totally awful. I still like them!
cutandpaste - 08/22/07 - 2:55 pm (72.248.137.66)
I'm about to ride home and watch THE LAST EPISODE!!
cutandpaste - 08/23/07 - 1:19 pm (72.248.137.66)
I FINISHED IT!

I don't know what to do with myself now...I'm going to have to go back and watch my favorite ones again now.

Also, do other people notice how they re-use guest stars?

For example, the woman who plays the lady who feels everything that girl who gets kidnapped feels (because she was kidnapped by the same man as a child), also comes back in season 9 as Audrey Pauly, the nurse that can travel to the space between life and death.
I feel like it happens other times, but I can't remember right now.
amonynoums - 09/03/07 - 8:43 am (68.163.141.144)
i loved xfiles on tv but somehow couldn't make myself sit through them all in order. the mythology episodes always seemed way more important to me and all i wanted was long story arcs and continuity and of course i got chris carter. however, i always had a real soft spot for the lake monster episode. they played it straight the whole time but i got my chuckles in the end. mulder is always right.
mike - 09/03/07 - 9:19 am (24.193.67.29)
they re-used a bunch of guest stars, now I am going to have to go find them all. thanks a lot laura.

the most egregious re-use of a guest star is on law and order SVU when they brought in "casey novak" as the new DA after that same actress had a prominent role as a murderer and went to prison on another episode.
cutandpaste - 10/11/07 - 10:57 pm (96.233.19.2)

asemisldkfj - 03/26/08 - 6:22 pm (96.237.14.8)
this morning I made the decision that The Unnatural is most definitely my favorite episode.

it has

1. baseball
2. negro league baseball
3. racial issues
4. mulder and scully flirting
5. jesse l. martin (detective green from law & order)
6. aliens

and that's all I can think of for now.

but it is seriously SUCH a good episode. I'm going to watch it literally right now. or maybe in like ten minutes.
zekar - 03/26/08 - 6:52 pm (66.30.5.35)
was totally my favorite show until david duchovany left

best episode? i really liked the one where the cyberpunk chick's dad uploaded himself to his computer.
but i always dug cigarette smoking man ones. like musings.

there's a DVD set with just the mythology episodes.

I'm rewatching all of these again in chronological order. Up on the 7th episode of S3.
The little army kid just got eaten by a sandox. this is one of the rare rare shows that isn't afraid to kill off kids in gruesome ways.
