Help me with my degree project - fill out this quick survey.259 views |

| Hello All, I am currently in my final semester studying Graphic Design at Massachusetts College of Art & Design, and I am working on my degree project. This is a semester long personal project that is supposed to encompass everything I've learned during my time at MassArt. So, it's kind of important. The research for my project is based around answering the following question: What is the best way to design & promote the release of an independent record so that it reaches the widest possible audience, represents the band appropriately, and takes into consideration the current state of the music industry, and music fans? And the final design solutions will be derived from whatever answers my research provides. This survey is just a small part of my research, but it is an important part. Ideally, it will help me to understand the relationship between people and the music they love. How do they find it? How do they get it? How do they enjoy it? Etc ... If you could take the time to fill out this quick survey, you'd be helping me out a lot, and if you'd take even a little bit more time to send it around to some friends, family, or coworkers, I would be extremely grateful. So, thanks in advance for your aid. Here's a link to the survey: survey - Doug |

| Thank you also Steve! I know that some of the questions might seem a little unnecessary, but you can skip whatever you don't want to answer. It's really just data collecting, but reading even the initial responses has been pretty interesting. I'm definitely excited to see what it looks like after a few days of people answering the questions. I'm sure I'll design some visual way of representing the data once the survey is over, and I'd be happy to post it on here if anyone is interested. Also, if anyone wants to use this thread as a further space to talk about some of the things I brought up in the survey, that would be welcome. |

| I listed "Weekly" as the most often I go out to see shows, as that was the most frequent listing available. |
| DeanStockwell - 2/9/10, 12:13 pm |
| I actually thought of you & Steve when I was coming up with the options for that question ... but I figured weekly would be enough for the average consumer of live music. Haha. |

| Dean whose degree class are you in? i had Gunta not tooo long ago... is chaz still mackin' on all the ladies? |
| DeanStockwell - 2/9/10, 12:56 pm |
| Chaz is wicked mackin' on the ladies. Pretty hysterical in a "look at the floor" kind of
way. I have Jan for degree. He is a solid dude for certain. |
| magpie - 2/9/10, 12:58 pm |
| tis true - Jan knows his stuff. i might have guessed you had him considering your degree focus. |
| weth - 2/9/10, 1:04 pm |
| If you could adjust my answer to "at least two or three times a week", that would be
cool. Also, I didn't include Battle House in my list of favorite bands, as that would just seem too precious and fawning. |

| Jan's awesome, though I was never able to take his class because of scheduling issues. I'm still
bummed about that. I had Brian for my degree project though, which worked out really well, |

| last question - who is teaching Design History? i was lucky to be there for Al Gowan's last class. after that it really sucked, i should know i had to TA the damn thing. poor dude just didn't know what was UP! and wouldn't budge an inch. |

| I caught Design History with Lance Hidy 4-5 years ago, but I think after that Jan started teaching
it (unless if I'm mistaken). Al Gowan's letterpress class was awesome though. I graduated MassArt 3.5 years ago, and I'm still up in that lab all the time. |

| I will conjecture that soliciting participation on lemmingtrail will skew your responses. For instance, to the question "How do you find out about new bands?" - you'll probably get more "I go on tour" than you would from the general public. |
