| I honestly wish I was totally on board with this thread. As much as I want to hate them, as much as
they really disserve a lot of the ire people have for it (cultural appropriation, smugness,
affectation, being indie darlings, being a big "fuck you" to everyone but upper middle
class white dudes), I really enjoy the new vampire weekend album. It's catchy as fuck. I know this makes me a bad person. |

| the hives are a better version of the hives. They were actually really awesome and smart. These kids are just kids acting like kids sounding like kids who like to sound like the sound of a cookie being cut. |

| what cookie? i think it says a lot that both critics and fans cant decide what the band even sounds like. when i first listened to this band i expected djembes and rainsticks and i got what sounded like clever proto-punk. now weve got people claiming they are dispatch and dave matthews-inspired college rock. its funny how far a pair of boat shoes and a few graceland comparisons can go. it more or less makes people think theyre listening to different music. it even makes smart people like brian think theyre listening to clothing. |

| tonite I was sick of my CDs at work, so I turned on the radio, and while waiting for Loveline to
come on at 10pm, I heard this band being hyped by the DJ as a cool exclusive new track, and then he
played Vampire Weekend playing a fucking outrageously funny version of Ruby SoHo. SERIOUSLY. This is how I was introduced to Vampire Weekend. May they become the most popular band on earth, they did a faggy cover of Rancid. hahahahahaa |

| that's actually a really awesome way tyou were introduced to vampire weekend, it's a good way, RTT
showed me a couple of tracks from thier first ep or whatever and when they were signed to XL and
went on SNL and shit i htought for sure they were going to break, but didn't really, hopefully this
time around they aren;t annoying hyped as an IT band but they will be. also that was just WRONG to mention the hives if were to compare them to anybody it would be THE STROKES. I think Vampire WEEKEND is just OK and I say the same thing for the strokes, both ha dthe whole newyork trust fund sterotype an dthe IT band shit going for them. ALSO the both had influences from the late 70's-to mid 80's i mean the hives did too but the hives are waaaay COOLER |

| "anru - 2/9/10, 8:49 am also that was just WRONG to mention the hives if were to compare them to anybody it would be THE STROKES" i compared them to the hives because its a pretty stripped down, dry, uptempo pop group. youre confused because youre still caught up in wardrobes and 60s this and 80s that and youre missing my point. in the grand scheme of things, they are very similar to and should be no more offensive than a band like the hives, who people seem to really respect for whatever reason. also its technically wrong to compare the hives to the strokes, but thats an argument for somebody who actually cares about that type of thing. then again, here i am still going back and forth about a band that i havent ever heard a full album from. oh well |
