| someone breaking in used to be honestly my number one fear as a little kid. and then i finally got
reassured that it was a super safe neighborhood and we had a good alarm system blah blah blah. this
creeps me out so much. has it ever happened to you guys? i mean i guess i should say "my parents house" at this point, actually shut up, it's still my house. |

| it happened at my parents house when i was younger. came home and some oriental rugs had been
stolen. my parents got an alarm system after that. they now have two dogs as well. one night my
sister swears she saw a guy looking at her through a window who ran away when he realized someone
was there. my dad came down with a bat which he sleeps next to i guess. were you home? i am sorry. :( |

heyradio - 5:32 pm (96.237.9.170) one night my sister swears she saw a guy looking at her through a window who ran away when he realized someone was there. GAHH THAT'S MY EVEN BIGGER FEAR. I WOULD HAVE A HEART ATTACK AND DIE. no, no one was home, and NOTHING WAS TAKEN! besides like, some costume jewelry for some reason. but they were only looking for jewelry and anything of value is in the bank. they didn't even touch TVs or any other stuff like that. my house is in an isolated area and i'm still really creeped out. and mad.

this sucks i'm really really sorry. there was a kid around my neighborhood from a very friendly/nice family and he would hear when people were going on vacation and tear the shit apart while they were gone. eventually he was arrested and the family was basically forced to move.

always been poor, nothing to steal did have a prowler once that was standing outside my moms bedroom window, but he ran away. She then called the cops and I remember the cop was a total dick and thought my mom was making it up. She had to beg him to look in our yard and patrol the neighborhood, which he did reluctantly and didn't find anything. The next week our neighbors found a hand gun in our side yard that we shared. We both had bats by our beds from that point on.

megs i hate to say, but bat vs gun is not a good way to go into a fight.

jonleonard - 5:48 pm (66.31.202.186) megs i hate to say, but bat vs gun is not a good way to go into a fight. duh, it was just to ease our minds we don't believe in owning guns, we're british

unless by bat you mean, BatMAN. guns don't scare him.

the first time my sister and i were left alone at night as kids (we were approaching the age where babysitters were no longer necessary), a guy tried to break into the house... needless to say, i had babysitters again until a rather embarrassing age.

someone broke into my parents house a couple of years ago. crawled under the house & busted through the drywall behind the washer/dryer. if the washer/dryer had been pulled back into position noone would have noticed for a while. maybe they were supposed to but my parents came home & they had to make a quick escape. made off with some cash, cheap jewelry & a camera.
paintedbird - 7/3/09, 2:45 pm
oh yeah, my dad spent a bunch of time & money securing doors/windows and someone manages to bust through a wall.
katharine - 7/3/09, 3:00 pm
ugh that is one of my worst fears in LIFE. i want to have a house someday but i dont know if i can manage living on the ground floor! aaahh
Huts - 7/3/09, 3:34 pm
i have nothing worth stealing so i fear nothing
paintedbird - 7/3/09, 3:35 pm
what if they break in & shit on your couch?

megs - 5:44 pm (128.103.94.232) always been poor, nothing to steal i also think this is why i've never been mugged. even if this isn't a good reason to justify that fact, i'm going to roll with it because it keeps me from being paranoid sometimes.

| Happened at my mom's house when I was at work (summer of college) and she was upstairs asleep. Stole
her purse and some other stuff downstairs. Sat on the back porch and went through the purse tossing
stuff out, then took the car keys and stole the car. Car recovered damages in east Boston. |

i learned my lesson long ago about keeping my piles of money under my mattress all traditional-like, instead of distributed in even piles on every first-floor windowsill with the big bills scotch-taped to the glass. i guess it seems obvious now, but hindsight's 20/20, right?

Generally if nothing was taken the first time, they are just scoping out what to take in round 2
level60JIZZARD - 7/3/09, 5:53 pm
someone tried to break in just this morning i stuck my head out the window and yelled down to him, 'cut it out' and my friend said 'youre the bravest woman ive ever met' i aint got time for bullshit oh hell no
diana - 7/3/09, 6:06 pm
anon, they were looking for jewelry. the jewelry drawers were the only things disturbed.

i dont really own anything that cant be replaced so i dont really care about my stuff getting heisted also my most favorite 'things' are really fucking heavy so its not really a big deal also i usually have 8-10 dogs around me as well so i feel pretty safe unless something like a dinosaur or alien attack happen'd so my advice is to get a small pack of dogs or something similar also dudes breaking in to steal jewelry and looking for cashola seems so 80's to me man wtf? this is the future dont we steal with computers now?
pplpeeler - 7/3/09, 8:14 pm
I know the feeling.. Last summer someone broke into my apt. during the day. they walked away with 3 laptops, digital cameras/ipods, and a handle of whiskey (underage i'm sure). It's a horrible feeling to walk in to your bedroom and discover you've been ROBBED. It's an even worse feeling to realize you lost 4 years worth of recordings on your piece of shit dell. I'll bet that the majority of all house thefts are juvenile

we left the garage open one night in our very safe, relatively affluent neighborhood and someone broke into my mom's car and stole a camera and the car phone charger (???).

when I lived in Providence a neighbor's dog was stolen. But another neighbor who was also a drug dealer was dog fighting as well. So I guess we can close the book on that one. Except the cops were on the take from him, so he's probably still in business.

diana - 10/9/09, 1:02 am
yeah the worst part about this is that i can no longer walk around naked for fear that jewel thieves are lurking and judging me like "why cant she put her clothes on to make a baked potato"
evanparker - 10/9/09, 1:03 am

here's something that was crazy... have you see the movie the amityville horror movie? Well, it "really happened" and my mom dated the guy that it "really happened" to. One of the first times my brother and I were left home alone, that dude came to my house and knocked on the door a bunch. Then sat in his car as my brother and I hid on the floor. That was freaky.
