Where can I get one of these?
grandmapucker - 7/2/09, 11:05 am
I used to have a schematic for making your own, but I don't know where it is. If you don't want to make one, I can't help you.

I think I would burn myself down if I tried to make such a thing.

I could probably make one next month I've got a couple of pedals I ahve to get done befor eI can take on any new projects, but building a Tone Bender for myself is definitely high on my list of future projects; I could do two.

What would that sort of thing cost a fellow member of the lemmingtrail community?

I'd have to look into the parts. A fuzz Face is $100, and this uses a third Germanium transistor; I'd say $120 is the likely amount. Really couldn't start sooner than 2-3 weeks from now, though.

silicon tonebenders sound like video games.

I'd be building a Germanium one.

biggest issue with building pedals right now is that the facilities I have at my disposal for drilling the cases are almos tunusable (no workspace, dull bits, low-torque drill - all my tools are packed). I'll order pre-drilled cases for the next round of pedals.

lusty if you want to come over and use mine youre welcome to!

Sometime I might, I ahven't tried one. Silicon is a lot more consistent, if liked it I'd try making some of those, too.

when you say "vox tonebender", there have been like 18 different versions
dougdeeper - 7/2/09, 2:58 pm
the vox tone bender has 2 transistors just like a fuzz face but with a few different values, the colorsound tonebender on the other hand has a few different verisons, one being the mark ii witch has the extra stage.

I'm guessing any of the 18 versions will get me the Mick Ronson "my guitar amp is blowing up" lead tone. I'm not too picky.
brown - 7/2/09, 4:35 pm
lusty, i mean for using tools. i have a darn good battery drill and my neighbor has a drill press.
dougdeeper - 7/2/09, 5:30 pm
| mick ronson used the mki version, which is a lot closer to a maestro fuzztone then any of the other
tonebenders. IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW |

this is what i swear by, the extra knobs are crucial: IMAGE REMOVED - CLICK TO VIEW it sounds like ronson if you want it to, i usually set it to sound like him...but i can get it to sound like helmet too.
dougdeeper - 7/2/09, 7:06 pm
thats based on the 3 knob tonebender i believe.
tigerdriver - 7/2/09, 8:36 pm
yeah but it has a gain knob added, it sounds way more pissed off if you crank it
shanesanguine - 7/2/09, 8:54 pm
sounds doubly pissed off if you get a parking ticket and then play it .

| there's a real tonebender at q division. i used it with Baker about a year and a half ago.. bar none
one of the best-sounding fuzz pedals i've ever heard --- (i've heard the entirety of mascis's
collection, too.. and he agrees about this particular tonebender) --- it's fucking incredible. i've
heard some copies and they're really great but if you've ever used a vintage one you'd agree that
there's nothing quite like it. same goes for fuzz faces.. the originals (ages components, perhaps?)
have something special. you'll probably never find an affordable vintage tonebender unless you're the luckiest person on earth. |

ive heard that tonebender and wasnt impressed! it sounded mis-biased. to each his own. keep the mojo alive.
