I can't cry too much for my own self, though, because the Abbey's provided me with so much delight over the past near-decade that weeping over the bar's demise would be tantamount to my weeping over not getting to continue eating chocolate cake for every meal. Instead I'll just be pleased and grateful to have had so much cake already. |

| the place has been open since the 30s. Now the landlord wants to put in a restaurant or a small quiet irish pub. that way he can raise the rent on the apartments upstairs, which are already pretty high, and he can get rid of the lifelong problem tenant who lives directly above the abbey. |

shows, though I don't think its a matter of Jerry wanting less shows, just fatigue, maybe? I hate to
speak for Tony though as I'm not sure. I just know its been slowing down there. I think it could and
should pick up though. The thing I worry about with Precinct is that in the last 7 years I can think of like 4 different places that were in that room, it seems like such a weirdly unstable spot. |

| Profitable, sure. But to make enough money to cover the extremely high rent and be profitable would be difficult with a room that size, and if the Abbey was to stick around, I am sure the landlord would be pulling other tactics to get rid of them. |

That's a stupid question. it was a question in response to a stupid statement. i'm not saying providence's scene is the strongest it's ever been but please don't suggest that it's because of a lack of bar/clubs that do shows. providence has never solely depended on those types of venues and the reason it has the character and strength it has is because of the incredible efforts taken to make sure that it existed outside of the club scene. as morgan commented on, boston will never cope with a lack of chill clubs/bars that do shows like providence has. and not only have we managed to cope without these venues, i think we've become stronger and more substantial because of it. |

| I dunno, I was bitter about the renovation, because you couldn't go anymore without paying to go to whatever show was happening (I used to drink there pretty regularly with buddies and make fun of the shitty bands through the hole in the wall), but the post-renovation room warmed, and I'm pretty damn upset that its gonna be gone. |

Unfortunately, i was possibly the only door guy that did that. that's awesome, though I guess I never would have even presumed to go down to the Abbey if there wasn't a show I wanted to see after the renovation. THAT SAIDDDDd it sounded a shit ton better after the renovation, and I love love love that room as it is now! My complaint was minor. |

| I mean, there are like 10 regulars who just pop in for a beer and go home, i don't charge them. Dave, a regular every friday, i only made him pay if there was a pretty bad show and we needed every cent. if it was packed, no one would miss his $8. my theory was, get the people in and say hey i like this place and keep em coming back paying for drinks. |

| Well, big. But i also don't know church, and the money they take off the door wouldn't work for
me. At the Abbey i was able to dictate some things, make sure they shows were run the way i wanted to with the sound guys i wanted and the door people i wanted, the bartenders i wanted etc. i can't do that other places. i probably never will be able to again unless i buy a place. |
