heyradio - 07/24/08 - 5:51 pm (24.60.188.43)
well, they are doing small cities. also, what do they take into consideration? safety? schools?
heyradio - 07/24/08 - 5:51 pm (24.60.188.43)
i mean, cnn isnt scoping out the local bar scene.
icehockeyhair - 07/24/08 - 5:54 pm (69.25.198.2)

jesus christ, can you imagine living in a city of 120K+ people where the median salary is 120K?
katharine - 07/24/08 - 6:06 pm (76.19.99.44)
hahaha my dad's hometown is in the top 20 and whilst he grew up on a farm, last time we went there every square inch of land was covered in crazy housing developments and he freaked out a little

RyanMcGinty - 07/24/08 - 6:19 pm (71.232.22.222)
newton is a nice place to live if you don't mind long hilly bike rides to get to boston.
but really it is nice there.
Edzuky - 07/24/08 - 6:19 pm (67.114.165.228)
i used to drive around newton at night just to check out the amazing houses. and relax by the pond.
ellehcim - 07/24/08 - 6:20 pm (71.232.185.191)
when it refers to waltham, it refers to a very particular area of waltham.
cm - 07/24/08 - 6:21 pm (209.6.220.17)
most of newton is really nice but brookline is like fun newton. its a shame that rt 9 cuts through newton and uglies it up.
PARTICIPATOR - 07/24/08 - 6:21 pm (72.93.196.234)
#1 DETROIT
heyradio - 07/24/08 - 6:21 pm (24.60.188.43)
i grew up there. no complaints, really. awesome school system & really fast train ride into boston. the school was horribly suffocating at times.. not helped by the fact it was designed by a guy who designed prisons, but i made it through alive.
heyradio - 07/24/08 - 6:22 pm (24.60.188.43)
there = newton
WSJRaff - 07/24/08 - 6:22 pm (72.70.57.188)
wow I haven't been to a single place on the top 25.

I've been living the life of a savage.
WSJRaff - 07/24/08 - 6:23 pm (72.70.57.188)
I was in newton a lot when I lived in needham because it was the closest newbury comics to me.
ellehcim - 07/24/08 - 6:26 pm (71.232.185.191)
there is some crazy wealth in newton, and it is also home to howard zinn, though i think he may technically live in newtonVILLE.
jonladen - 07/24/08 - 6:27 pm (216.54.132.251)
round rock is just north of austin...only time i was there for any amount of time i went to a guy's house to buy his sons xbox. he lived in a cul de sac where each house had immaculate lawns. there was a deer chilling out on one of the lawns and i was like "hey check that out!" and the guy said they were everywhere and sure enough there were about 2 or 3 deer just lounging out in almost EVERY backyard. i bet they have a high rate of lymes disease.
joedinkin - 07/24/08 - 6:29 pm (76.248.144.153)

SkunkEye - 07/24/08 - 9:41 pm (68.156.43.202)
I have a hard time believing that Plymouth, Minnesota is a particularly fulfilling place to live.
ellehcim - 07/24/08 - 9:43 pm (71.232.185.191)
detuned, i'm not entirely sure, because it's not where i lived, but evidently, it must exist. cnn says so.
asha - 07/24/08 - 9:45 pm (65.96.184.89)
there is NO humanly logically way irvine is number FOUR and san diego is missing from this list

timberlinerecs - 07/25/08 - 8:36 am (128.103.18.140)
ellehcim - 6:20 pm (71.232.185.191)
when it refers to waltham, it refers to a very particular area of waltham.

Unlikely, since this info is compiled from city wide statistics.

And lets also remember this is Money Magazine's criteria.

It's fantastic, when I lived in WI I had a g/f whose parents lived there and visited a couple of times. Wonderful place.
paul - 07/25/08 - 9:15 am (12.130.9.139)
Minnesota and New Jersey are ridiculously overrepresented on that list.
Wes - 07/25/08 - 9:50 am (76.119.236.214)

He lives in Auburndale.
StudioShibli - 07/25/08 - 9:53 am (24.63.148.235)
Easton was on this list last year.
Wes - 07/25/08 - 9:54 am (76.119.236.214)
I grew up in Chelmsford and we were #21 last year and that town fucking blows.
tintern - 07/25/08 - 10:07 am (63.116.56.11)
This just furthers my feeling that if I was going to move out of Worcester and closer to Boston, my first choice would be Waltham.

Well, that and it's the only place near things where I could afford a single family home and still have access to stores/bars/etc..
timberlinerecs - 07/25/08 - 10:10 am (128.103.18.140)
Moody St has really become a gem. My g/f and I go out there for food / beer as much as we do downtown Boston now.
ianhall - 07/25/08 - 10:18 am (24.62.223.125)
Most singles.

1 Hoboken, NJ 57.7%

heyradio - 07/25/08 - 10:22 am (24.60.188.43)

Ahahahhaahaha!!!! Yeah, I can't even walk around Manchvegas without people offering to sell me hard drugs. A good friend of mine is moving from there to Allston and she is so unbelievably pysched to do so and I don't blame her.
ryantheterrible - 07/25/08 - 10:39 am (128.197.103.181)
I mean, growing up there wasn't the worst, but like, JESUS CHRIST IT SUCKS SO BAD!

Also, Manch has become a lot safer over the years.

It's money magazine ratings and bars, restaurants, etc are factored in. They present the criteria.
brokenfuses - 07/25/08 - 10:44 am (198.115.79.91)
I often wonder what Montana is like.

Wouldn't mind roadtripping through there.
ryantheterrible - 07/25/08 - 10:46 am (128.197.103.181)
Chris, watch American Meth.
then decide if you wanna do that.
tintern - 07/25/08 - 10:46 am (63.116.56.11)
Wow. I just checked home prices in Waltham and they actually start at $229K which is ridiculously affordable.
heyradio - 07/25/08 - 7:47 pm (24.60.188.43)
timberlinerecs, where did you find that? all i found was
"Plentiful jobs, excellent schools, affordable housing - America's best small cities have all that and more. See the top 100 best places to live - including detailed city profiles, homes for sale and million-dollar homes."
chrissie - 07/25/08 - 7:57 pm (128.95.25.190)
if you click the city name, it gives you details of schools, museums, bars, bmi, divorce rates, etc and so forth.
heyradio - 07/25/08 - 8:01 pm (24.60.188.43)
got it!
chrissie - 07/25/08 - 8:01 pm (128.95.25.190)
Conveniently located between Dallas and Fort Worth and close to D/FW International Airport, Grand Prairie is home to the Southwest Industrial District, where many companies have established distribution and manufacturing centers.
Families enjoy safe and affordable neighborhoods, fishing and boating in Joe Pool Lake, and watching Class-1 horse racing at Lone Star Park.

Residents will soon welcome an outlet mall anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th and Neiman Marcus Last Call.

hahah, that really doesn't explain to me why it made the list.
